Daytona Bike Week 2008
Five enthusiastic Aussies arrived at Daytona, in a black Hummer emblazoned with the Australian flag and blacked out windows. Talk about a kangaroo with a gold tooth. In tow was a bike built by a small specialist engineering firm from outer Melbourne here to take on the Americans in the Battle of the Twins for all comers at Daytona.Ken and Barry Horner of HRD Engineering have not only redesigned and built three Irving Vincents to compete in the Classic Classes in Australia, they have now designed and built a 1600 CC version to comply with the American rules and won at their first attempt. Without any corporate or government help the Horner Brothers have put Australia in the media spotlight before the biggest motorcycling showcase in America.
Yes, they were riding on Dymags.

Ford GT on Dymags at LA Auto Show
Our friends at Rennworx managed to get a Ford GT into the recent Los Angeles auto show and outfitted it with Carbon Fiber Dymags. They look quite nice if we say so ourselves.

German Racers prefer Dymags
I think the best way to capture our excitement over last weekend's wins in Germany is through the breathless correspondence from our distributor. Live and unfiltered, heeeere's Norbert!
This weekend the German championship went into the last two races.
Supersport World Champion Jörg Teuchert on his Yamaha R1 came 15 points ahead of the Andy Meklau with 203 points (Under pressure too, Suzuki wants the title). Third, Martin Bauer on the CBR 1000RR from Holzhauer Racing (186points) had chance to get the title too.
Race one:
Green light to get into the start positions. Bingo! The first went out and the first rain of the weekend came down. The race was not started.
First 15 min. rain practice.
Nice situation when the rain stopped. So what to do? Meklau takes rain tires so does Teuchert, Bauer and the most other riders. Well knowing that if the rain is not coming again this is wrong. The Pirelli tires are very hard and not quite as good as the Dunlops if it is raining.
First row on pole Meklau then Michael Schulten, Joerg Teuchert and Stefan Nebel on his Kawasaki.
Green light. Good start of Meklau but Jörg, with the better traction, ahead in turn one.
Not a good news for Suzuki, Meklau wants too much and tests the grass. Was this the title for Joerg? Not at this time. The race is long and during the time the harder Pirelli rain tires were more stable than the Dunlops on the more and more dry track.
Jörg loses his place and finished 11th and got 5 points.
On the podium, winner Michael Schulten teammate Werner Daemen 3rd and Martin Bauer takes the 2nd place. Now the situation is close again.
1. Teuchert (223)
2. Bauer (206)
3. Meklau (203)
Race two:
Meklau took the lead with Michael Schulten in his slip stream. Joerg with a clever race the championship in his view.
Finish.
1. Meklau
2. Schulten
3. Nebel
4. Bauer
5. Daemen (B)
6. Teuchert
Championship finish:
1. Joerg Teuchert is the 2006 International German Superbike Champion with 233 points taken on DYMAG forged magnesium wheels
2. Andy Meklau 225 (A)
3. Martin Bauer 219 (A)
4. Michael Schulten 172 DYMAG
5. Stefan Nebel 172 DYMAG
6. Christian Kellner 157
7. Roman Stamm (CH) 148
8. Daemen (B) 139 DYMAG
9. Philipp Hafeneger 119 DYMAG
12. Günter Knobloch (A) 96 DYMAG
14. Markus Wegscheider (A) 62 DYMAG
19. Oliver Skach 15 DYMAG
22. Andy Hahn 10 DYMAG
23. Norman Manz 8 DYMAG
Only Peter Preussler did not get any points but he did win two races in the German Open Extreme class.
Dymag statistics from 16 races at 8 events:
4 times on pole
8 wins, 9 seconds and 7 third places.
1028 of 2240 points scored on DYMAG.
DYMAG is the only wheel which has been every race on the podium. (24 of 48)

Koenigsegg runs on Dymag
As the world gets ready for Christian von Koenigsegg's latest marvel to be unveiled tomorrow at the Geneva Car Show, we're pleased to announce that the Koenigsegg CCX is fitted with Dymag carbon fibre wheels. The CCR set some records so we'll be interested to see how the reviews on this model.
Rising from the ashes of their factory fire, Koenigsegg cars are now (fittingly) produced in a decomissioned Swedish Air Force hanger.

MotoGP at Laguna Seca

Rossi threads a corner. Thanks to Andy for the photo.
By now you've all heard the news from California. The Italian superstar Valentino Rossi had to settle for third place behind two Americans, Nicky Haden and Colin Edwards. This was a weekend of firsts. The first time Nicky had qualified for a pole position, the first time Nicky had a Grand Prix win, the first time Rossi had raced on American soil, the first time this writer had the good fortune to see a MotoGP event live, and the first time a MotoGP had been held in the United States since 1994.
The course is best described in Nicky's own words,
The track has a good mix of corners. Turn 1 isn't a real corner but its on the crest of a hill and the bike goes light but you have to get it slowed for turn 2 which is a double apex where you sort of let the bike drift out then pull it back to line up the right hand turn 3. I really like turn 4 it's a fast right probably the only corner you really work the tyre hard. You leave the infield section on a quick left, which used to be a dangerous corner but it’s got a good run off now." "It leads up the hill to my all time favourite corner, the Corkscrew. It's an incredible feeling when you tip it in, left, right then another left with the track dropping away from you all the way. It's amazing. Down hill from the corkscrew can be pretty hard on the front end but if you get the combination from the corkscrew down through turns 9 and 10 you can make up a lot of time. But when the front goes off late in the race it's real difficult to hold your line through 9 and 10.
It was an amazing event that brought motorcycle enthusiasts from all over the world. Hells Angels with beards & bandandas admired gleeming display bikes lined up on Ducati Island alongside weekend racers in their leathers and Sidi boots. At one point, the Honda booth fired up the engine on a classic 1964 GP racer which quickly brought together a crowd of fawning gearheads. After the five minute symphony of the machines deafening roar the Honda mechanic cut the engine and the crowd broke out in spontaneous applause.
Dymag wheels were on display at the Cycle Cat booth which drove it's rolling display out from Ohio on a three-day tear to make the opening. The display of multi-colored wheels drew interest from serious riders like moths to a flame. We had to turn folks away who wanted to buy the wheels right off the display rack for fear we wouldn't have anything left to show for the rest of the weekend (UPS had wisely set up a booth in the vendor area to for just such an occasion). No worry, Dymag wheels can soon be purchased online by anyone interested from Cycle Cat's new web site, oncycle.com.

Dymag at Laguna Seca
For those of you heading to the Grand Prix event at Laguna Seca this weekend, be sure to stop by the Cycle Cat booth where they will be showing some of Dymag's wheels. The booth will be located just off the turn two side of Ducati Island.
Cycle Cat will introduce it's new, online shop, oncycles.com, which will feature Dymag's entire line and will also be offering some event-only specials. Also being demo'd at the booth will be our race starter and, Cycle Cat's exclusive UCS1 solo rearstand.
